Manali skier, 4 others honoured

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Sunday honoured five persons, including a girl skier from Manali, and an NGO, with state awards. He appreciated their contribution in their respective fields.

The Chief Minister presented the Prerana Strot Award comprising Rs 2.50 lakh in cash and a citation to Prof Vinod K Pal and Dr Randeep Gularia, renowned doctors at AIIMS, Delhi, who hail from Kangra district, and Dr Om Chand Handa, a historian from Mandi.

Dr Pal was the head of the paediatrics department, AIIMS, in 2008. At present, he is a member of NITI Aayog and advises the government on various issues related to the midday meal scheme. He is also on the panel of the Jacha-Bacha campaign launched by the UN.

Dr Guleria played an important role in setting up the pulmonary medicine and sleep disorders department at AIIMS, Delhi. He is an adviser on a WHO panel on the prevention of influenza. Dr Gulerai is also associated with various national medical bodies.

Historian Om Chand Handa has penned various books on the history, archaeology and culture of Himachal. He has established a research centre at Sanjauli.

The Chief Minister presented the Civil Service Award to Deputy Administration, Kullu, Yunus for effective implementation of for the convenience of tourists. The location of a trekker can be traced through this app with the help of the geo trekking system.

Thakur presented the Himachal Gourav Award comprising Rs 21,000 and a citation to Aanchal Thakur for winning a medal in a skiing competition held at Turkey. Anchal hails from Manali and is currently undergoing training in Europe for the Winter Olympics-2018. Chinmaiya, Sidhbhari, received the Prerna Strot Award for its contribution in rural development in Kangra region.
