Pathankot-Mandi 4-laning likely to be delayed

Palampur, November 6

The Pathankot-Mandi four-lane project is likely to be delayed further owing to the ‘’lax’’ attitude of revenue agencies in acquiring land for the purpose.

Sources said the land acquisition process might take a year or so. Most SDMs, particularly in Kangra district, who had been made the nodal officers for the land acquisition process, were yet to verify land documents sent by the NHAI in June.

A senior official of the NHAI on Friday said although the Central Government had agreed to bear the total cost of land to be acquired for the strategic four-lane project connecting Pathankot with Leh, the land acquisition process was going on at a snail’s pace. It would further delay the stone-laying ceremony proposed to be held in November-end. He said despite repeated reminders, the NHAI was not receiving satisfactory response from the revenue agencies that were responsible for acquiring land.

Sources said the major reason for the delay in acquiring the land was “the lack of administrative and political will”.
