Mandi, February 13

Residents of Janjehli continued their protest on the second day on Tuesday against a notification by the state government granting the subdivision status to Thunag.

However, in a bid to placate the residents, the Thunag sub-divisional magistrate will sit for four days in a month at Janjehli.

People are demanding that the SDM office, which was opened during the Congress regime, be retained at Janjehli. The protesters today raised slogans against the state government.

However, Deputy Commissioner, Mandi, Rugved Thakur today lifted Section 144 from Jenjehli after talks with the protesters. Police force deployed there was also called back.

SP, Mandi, Gurdev Chand Sharma said the protest remained peaceful today and no loss to property or any violence was reported.

Meanwhile, Jagdish Reddi, block Congress president of Seraj, said the people of the region were disappointed with the decision of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur. He said the protest would continue till the Chief Minister withdrew this notification.
