Three Haroli panchayats lose PDS quota

Una, June 13

The Haroli block Congress unit on Wednesday met DC Rakesh Prajapati and lodged a protest on the issue of the non-availability of items under the Public Distribution System (PDS) to the residents of three panchayats of Haroli block — Roda, Bhadauri and Haroli — for the last four months.

Led by Block Congress Committee president Vinod Kumar Bittu, Congress workers said the fair-price shops in these panchayats were ordered to be closed by the Civil Supplies Department on political considerations. According to sources, some irregularities were found in the working of three fair-price shops, due to which these were temporarily ordered to be shut down. Meanwhile, Congress workers, who cited political vendetta as the reason behind the closure of shops, have questioned as to why consumers were forced to suffer for the last four months. They also threatened to launch an agitation. Vinod Kumar said the fair-price shop in Panjawar panchayat was also ordered to be closed by the Civil Supplies Department. — OC
