Jalandhar, June 13

As many as 14 shops and commercial buildings were sealed today by the town planning wing of the Municipal Corporation. Officials carried out the process early in the morning.

The shops and buildings were violating the bylaws, the officials said. It is for the second consecutive day that the action has been taken against the violators.

Lakhbir Singh, Assistant Town Planner (ATP), said yesterday, as many as eight buildings were sealed.

Pardeep, another ATP, said it was an order from Municipal Commissioner Diprava Lakra to seal the buildings.

“Shops and commercial buildings at Mandi Road, Golden Avenue and Model Town were sealed,” he said, adding that the files to seal these units had been moved much earlier.

Notably, the violation of building bylaws are checked by the Municipal Corporation and the action is then taken.

For the past some days, the process of sealing the buildings has been hastened up. Also, an RTI activist has filed an application to know about the buildings in the city violating the bylaws.

The officials said the process would be carried out in a planned manner.
