2 held for duping man of Rs 8 L

Phagwara: Two NRI brothers Jaswinder Lal and Lakhwinder Lal, both residents of Begampura village, were arrested from Delhi and Chandigarh airports respectively on Saturday. They were returning from Italy. They had allegedly duped Chanan Lal, a resident of their village, of Rs 8 lakh. They had promised him a job abroad, Sikander Singh, Station House Officer (SHO) of Rawalpindi police station, said. Both the accused had a look out circular issued against them in connection with the case. They had fled to Italy after duping Chanan Lal. Jaswinder Lal was arrested from the Indira Gandhi International Airport and Lakhwinder Lal was arrested from the Chandigarh international airport. The SHO said their mother was also arrested in this connection. OC

Kabir followers meet CM

Jalandhar: Rajesh Bhagat, who is mahant, Punjab Moolgaddi Kashi, on Saturday met Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh at the PAP helipad and presented to him a book of five major projects. The mahant, who has been a government officer and hails from Jalandhar, said the book relates to projects, including a 500-bedded hospital, an 80-acre Kabir Ashram, a museum and an educational institute, all coming up at Varanasi. He demanded that since 500 years of Kabir salvation were being celebrated this year, a community centre after Saint Kabir’s name be set up in Punjab too. TNS
