With the theme, ‘Fire loss is National Loss- Let us adopt fire safety measures’, district fire brigade team observed the day as the “Martyr’s Day” to pay tributes to the firemen who died from 14th April 1944 till today while doing the rescue operations .

This was done in accordance with the guidelines from the Ministry of Home Affairs that proposed to observe ‘Fire Service Week’ from April 14 to 20 to enhance general public awareness about the necessity of minimising losses due to fire.

Rajinder Sharma, District Fire Officer said, “This day will also be observed as the ‘Martyr’s Day’ to pay homage to those brave fire fighters who sacrificed their lives while discharging their duties.” It has been decided in the DGPs and IGPs conference that Fire Service Organisations must organise the function on ‘Martyrs Day’ each year at the local schools where the martyr had studied to pay homage to them, so as to inspire the younger generations .

Rajinder Sharma said the Prime Minister had also directed to organise Fire and Evacuation Drills frequently in the schools, malls and hospitals. So It was therefore requested to organise the fire and evacuation drills during the month of January, April, July, and October each year as per the dates suitable to the states.
