IMA protests over violence against docs

Phagwara, June 14

Taking a serious note of the rise in incidents of violence against medical professionals as well as medical institutions, doctors belonging to the Indian Medical Association observed national protest day today.

Dr SPS Sooch, former State president of the IMA, Phagwara, said doctors wore black badges, held dharnas in front of the offices of the Deputy Commissioners at district headquarters and SDM offices at sub-divisional headquarters from 10 am to 12 noon and submitted memorandums for forwarding these to the Prime Minister.

IMA Phagwara president Dr Rajan said doctors at Phagwara wore black badges to express their resentment against increasing violence against them.

He said the memorandums were e-mailed to the Prime Minister and Home Minister to raise the urgency of stern laws to check such incidents.

IMA members said doctors were being attacked by miscreants at several places.

The national protest day was observed to build pressure on the Centre and the state governments for enacting stern laws as well as to ensure implementation at the cutting-edge level to protect the medical fraternity and the medical institutions, said Dr SPS Sooch. — OC
