Our Correspondent

Phagwara, June 13

The police busted an inter-district gang of miscreants, involved in incidents of arsons, robberies and firing, by arresting its five members, including the kingpin Marshal Kanda, a resident of Baba Gadhia locality of Phagwara.

This was confirmed by Station House Officer Jatinderjit Singh while talking to newsmen here on Wednesday. He said the arrested miscreants had been identified as Marshal Kanda (the kingpin), Loveleen Singh alias Lamba, Hardip Singh alias Gogi, Deepak Kumar alias Deep, and Manpreet Singh alias Sachin.

He said these miscreants had attacked and injured Harman, a resident of Bhullarai village and set his motorcycle on fire on March 27 here this year.

They snatched a gold chain and motorcycle from Charanpreet Singh Walia of Phagwara after attacking and injuring him, he said. Police had recovered the snatched bike from them, he said.

Marshal Kanda had also confessed to have fired at Daljit Singh who is a resident of Jassomajara village. He injured him on April 8 this year, the Station House Officer said.

A case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) already stood registered against him and his accomplices, including Sachin Kumar of Chak Maidas village, in this connection in the Behram police station of SBS Nagar (Nawanshar) district, he said.

All five were produced in the local court. The accused were sent to judicial custody by the court after the proceedings, the Station House Officer said.
