Doda, June 14

Four persons were killed in two accidents in Doda and Kathua on Friday. Two persons died and another was injured when a Maruti Suzuki Alto fell into a tributary of the Chenab on the Thathri-Gundoh road of Doda district.

The accident occurred around 9:30 am, minutes after a bus met with an accident in Garsu area on Batote-Kishtwar national highway. The deceased were identified as Dooni Chand, son of Chuni Lal, and Neevi Manhas, daughter of Romesh Manhas, residents of Challer area.

In another mishap, a motorcyclist and his pillion rider were crushed to death by a bus in the Parliwand area of Kathua town on Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Manu Lal (32) and Sandeep (30).

Eyewitnesses said the deceased were on their way to Main Bazaar when the accident took place. “A van driver opened the door of his vehicle due to which they fell on the road and were run over by a speeding bus. People shifted them to Medical College, Kathua, where they were declared brought dead,” an eyewitness said.
