BJP pays tributes to Sherwani on death anniv

inagar: BJP state general secretary (organisation) Ashok Kaul along with other party workers on Thursday paid tributes to Maqbool Sherwani on his death anniversary. During a function at Baramulla in north Kashmir, Kaul said: “It was the supreme sacrifice of Sherwani that saved Baramulla and Srinagar from Pakistan in 1947.” Remembering Sherwani, BJP leader GM Mir said: “In 1947, when Pakistani troops attacked Kashmir and Indian security forces were not present there, Shervani was the one who along with his colleagues challenged Pakistani invaders.” Meanwhile, BJP spokesman Altaf Thakur urged Governor Satya Pal Malik to look into a recent function organised by the ‘Gayoor Foundation’ to pay tributes to poet Ghulam Rasool Gayoor. Alleging that the speakers at the function had passed derogatory remarks against the Governor and newly elected mayor Junaid Mattu, Thakur urged Malik to seek the footage of the function and take action.
