Udhampur, April 20

A statue of Captain Tushar Mahajan, the braveheart of Udhampur who was martyred in an anti-terrorist operation in Kashmir, was unveiled at the ‘T Morh’ of Udhampur on his birthday today.

Mahajan, an intrepid Army Special Forces officer who was also an exceptional diver, was commissioned into the Special Forces Battalion in 2010. The officer made the supreme sacrifice while leading a team engaged in elimination of three terrorists who had taken refuge in an EDI building at Pampore near Srinagar on 21 February last year.

Leading his team, Mahajan, displaying raw courage, stormed the building to flush out the terrorists. Despite being grievously wounded in the firefight, he charged at the terrorists and eliminated them at close quarters.

He was given the Shaurya Chakra by the Government of India which was received by his father from President Pranab Mukherjee on March 20 this year.
