Leh transmission line must meet deadline: Nirmal

Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh today directed the officials concerned to ensure that the prestigious Leh transmission line was completed within the stipulated time as it was important for improving the transmission and distribution of electricity in the Ladakh region.

The Deputy Chief Minster was interacting with a delegation of the Leh councillors, led by Minister for Cooperatives Tsering Dorjay and Chief Executive Councillor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Sonam Dawa. The delegation raised several important issues relating to Leh district.

Commissioner Secretary, Power Development Department, Dheeraj Gupta, and the Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Prasanna Ramaswamy G were present at the meeting.

Nirmal Singh said the government had undertaken several measures for augmenting the power infrastructure in the Ladakh region so that the people get requisite electricity. He said the process of implementation of the flagship initiatives should be properly monitored and the local representatives of the areas should be involved in their formulation and execution.

The Deputy Chief Minister said the government was contemplating undertaking the electrification of all unelectrified areas of the region as early as possible. He said under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana, all villages were to be provided electricity at the earliest. He also discussed initiatives being taken up under the rural development sector in Leh.
