Provide basic infra to villages, CM urged

Tribune News Service

Jammu, April 20

Demanding development of infrastructure in rural areas of Jammu region, Citizens’ Forum president RK Chadha today said the top priority of administrators should be to provide villages with basic facilities before dreaming of ‘smart cities’.

In a press release issued here today, Chadha said, “I appeal Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to hold back the smart city project of Jammu. They should first develop the villages of Jammu with basic infrastructure which is required by poor people for their day-to-day needs.”

“Jammu province has already suffered discrimination in development. The city as well as the villages do not have proper drinking water, medical transport and power facilities,” he said. The forum said the smart city project meant spending of huge amount of funds.

The mid-day meal for poor schoolchildren is an eye-opener. Over Rs100 crore was sent to the state by the Central government but poor children are being fed with simple dal and poor-quality rice, the forum added.
