Remark twisted to malign BJP’s image: Speaker

Jammu, May 16

Denying making any statement against the Army, Speaker Nirmal Singh on Wednesday said his remarks about a particular incident were “twisted and misquoted” by a section of media with an intention of creating a divide between the Army and nationalist forces and malign the image of the BJP.

“I come from a Dogra family and our generations have served the Army and the country. I can’t even think of speaking against the Army, which is one of the finest institutions of the country with an unparallel history of sacrifices. My father was in Maharaja’s Army and my brother-in-law was martyred in an anti-terrorism operation,” he said. “As a true Indian, I am personally indebted to the Army, so how can I utter even a single word against this great institution?” Singh added. —TNS
