Oh baa baaa!

Popular television host Maniesh Paul, who will soon be seen in the movie Baa Baaa Black Sheep, is excited about playing a character that has many shades, but equally keen to return to Tellywood
Oh baa baaa!

Actor, anchor and a newbie singer Maniesh Paul will now play the ‘black sheep’ and why not; it was learning experience on the sets of upcoming movie Baa Baaa Black Sheep and moolah to back up!

As this versatile artiste showed up in Chandigarh, yet again in his yellow sneakers (as pointed by a keen observer), he’s happy playing Baba, a chilled out, good-for-nothing guy in absolute love with his girlfriend. A comedy thriller, it was the quirky script that caught Maniesh’s attention. Working with veterans — Anupam Kher, Annu Kapoor, Kay Kay Menon — was an icing on the cake.

Contract killer

Maniesh loved how Baba, from a carefree guy, discovers he’s a 13th generation contract killer, with his father (played by Anupam Kher) posing to be a kaju-seller and casually knitting sweaters at home! “Whether Baba, who has not killed even an ant, risk losing his girlfriend and take the family ‘legacy’ forward is what film is about.”

While learning on the sets has been the biggest take away, Maniesh has been enjoying playing the ‘grey’ shades that he’s increasingly been offered. Television took a back seat last year, but he’s all set to make a comeback. “I would keep hosting, I love it.” His ‘new’ love is singing though. His single Harjai has already gained close to nine million views, and there is yet another in offing. Ever trained in singing? “Yes, I would sing in trains,” he makes everyone laugh in his characteristic humour and mentions how his mum would make him sing anywhere, everywhere. “Like I would be getting milk from dairy with her and she would bump into Kamlesh aunty and say, Kitna acha gata hai, beta ga kar sunao and I would break into Hawa hawa then and there.”

There is another dark film that he’s on, but despite being theth Punjabi no Pollywood project as of now. Jatt & Juliet Hindi remake? “It’s not moving as yet, I have moved on,” he signs off.

The lovely lady

Manjari Phadnis plays Maniesh Paul’s love interest in Baa Baaa Black Sheep and proudly proclaims how she took care of the adventure freak, Maniesh, while shooting a song sequence on a jet ski. “Making all those glam poses, he wouldn’t part away from his life jacket for he doesn’t know swimming, so I came to his rescue,” she spills the beans, something that her leading hero seconds. Playing a girl caught between her boyfriend and father, Manjari enjoyed being part of the learning curve that the set of the film has been.

By the way, she’s also out with her new single rather soon and exclaims, “Both of us are artistes, only too happy to be doing what we love.”
