Ludhiana November 18

The key suspect called at the police station for questioning escaped from the custody of the Tibba police station on Saturday night by scaling the 3-feet wall of the police station. Following the development, the police were on toes as all efforts to crack the case seemed to have gone down in the drain.

Sources said the suspect was also a resident of Puneet Nagar, where the acid attck victim resides. Additional DCP Rajvir Singh said on the basis of the call details of the acid attack victim, several persons were called for questioning at the police station. Among others, two were taken as key suspects and were told to appear at the police station regarding the probe, but only one of them reached. Among the two suspects, one is the girl’s neighbour, who is her self-proclaimed brother, while another was his friend.

Sources said the self-proclaimed brother and his friend were the key suspects, who used to call the victim most often.

ADCP Rajvir said both of them were the key suspects and one of them had scaled the Tibba police station wall and fled, adding that he was not arrested but called to the police station for questioning. “But now he has fled and our suspicion over the involvement of the self-proclaimed brother and his friend has become stronger. Unless and until we don’t arrest them, we cannot say anything,” the ADCP said.

The case

A 25-year-old girl, a seamstress, suffered an acid attack on Thursday night (November 15) on Tibba Road. She suffered 30 per cent injuries — maximum on her face. She was immediately rushed to the CMC Hospital where she is still under treatment. Sources said a boy, whose face was covered, knocked her house and when she opened the door, he immediately poured acid on her face and fled. She was recently engaged and her marriage was due in the coming months.
