Our Correspondent

Khanna, June 13

A three-year-old boy drowned in a pond at Issru village. He has been identified as Akash, son of Manjit Singh.

The boy had gone missing on Tuesday evening and his body could be found in the village pond in the morning. Manjit’s house is close to the village pond and there is no wall towards the pond side. Yesterday, the boy was playing in the yard near the pond. The parents found the boy’s slippers near the pond. A child told them that he had seen Akash fall in the pond.

The family informed the police. Chowki in-charge Balbir Singh, along with a police team, reached the spot. He called divers from Khanna and launched a search for the missing child. The child couldn't be traced till late night. In the morning, the search operation was resumed. Finally, the divers found the body of the child around 10.20 am. Khanna- SP (I) Jasvir Singh also reached the spot.  No case was registered and the body was handed over to his guardians after post-mortem.  Meanwhile, the chowki in-charge said they would construct a wall towards the pond side with the help of Good Samaritans to prevent such incidents in the future.
