Ludhiana, February 13

Son of late BJP leader and former president of Jagraon Municipal Council Baldev Krishan Dhir would contest the byelection to Ward Number 17 of the Jagraon Municipal Council on the BJP ticket. Baldev, who was the BJP councillor from the ward, died some time back.

The byelection would be held along with the Ludhiana MC elections scheduled for February 24.

Baldev’s son Ashvani Dhir, an advocate, is expected to face Madan Lal Bansal of the Congress in the byelection. Though the Congress has not formally declared the name of any candidate so far, it is believed that the party has almost decided to declare Bansal as party candidate for the byelection.

Bansal had contested the Jagraon MC elections against Baldev around three years ago. He had lost to Dhir by a small margin. A close contest is expected between Ashwani Dhir and Madan Lal Bansal.

While Ashwani has the sympathy of voters, Bansal is seeking votes on development carried out during this MC tenure which is ruled by the Congress.
