Ludhiana, July 11

In the mysterious death of a youth whose body was found in a canal at Kasabad village, his kin have demanded registration of a murder case against his friends.

Meanwhile, the matter reached Police Commissioner Sukhchain Singh who called the kin at his office and assured them of action.

The protest was led by general secretary of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee Rahul Malhotra. He said on June 24, Jatinder Kumar (26) went to Kasabad along with his friends who lived in the same locality. However, he did not return home later. “Suspecting foul play, the family approached the police and filed a missing complaint. Next day, the body of the youth was found floating in the canal at Kasabad. The police had initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174, CrPC, on the condition that further action would be taken in the case if the deceased was found to be murdered,” he added.

Mangat Ram of Kailash Nagar, brother of the deceased, said his brother had gone with his friends but when he drowned in the canal, his friends did not inform the family about it. Now, they were feigning innocence.
