Ludhiana, April 16

Five days after Rs 10 lakh and a laptop were stolen from a car on RK Road, near Cheema Chowk, the police claimed to have solved the case with the arrest of two teenage boys from Delhi.

On April 11, the boys, who were riding a bike, told a city-based hosiery trader that he should stop his car as something was wrong at rear of the vehicle. When the driver stopped the car, the trader, who was sitting on the back seat, also stepped out to check what had happened. Meanwhile, the two bikers stole a bag containing a laptop and Rs 10 lakh in cash lying on the back seat of the car.

After stealing the bag, they escaped and dumped the bag near Kirpal Nagar Bridge on National Highway 1.

Commissioner of Police Sukhchain Singh Gill said the police had earlier recovered about Rs 3 lakh and the laptop in the bag. After scanning CCTV cameras, the police identified the bike that was allegedly used in the crime, he said.

A police team was rushed to Delhi after getting the address of the bike owner. These two boys were apprehended for their alleged involvement in the theft from a slum area of Delhi, the police said.

Both boys originally belong to Madras.

The police officials said they had recovered Rs 6.5 lakh from their home. A case under Section 379 and 34 of the IPC had been registered against the boys at the Division Number 6 police station. They would be presented before the court.
