Unit surrenders Rs 64 lakh

Ludhiana:  During a survey conducted by the Income Tax Department at Veer Garment, Bahadur Ke Road, the company surrendered Rs 64 lakh to the department. Besides, the firm has been asked to pay Rs 50 lakh as tax. The survey was conducted under the supervision of Manav Bansal, Joint Commissioner. Contrary to a ruckus witnessed during the survey on Wednesday, there was peace at the factory as the IT sleuths and the police performed their duties. There was no resistance from anyone and surveys were completed peacefully. TNS

10 more down with dengue

Ludhiana: Ten more cases of dengue were reported from parts of the  district on Thursday. The number of dengue cases in the district has gone up to  136. The department has asked people to keep their surroundings clean  and not to let water accumulate in and around their houses. TNS 

Rs 8,000 looted from city man

Chandigarh: Four persons riding two motorcycles allegedly robbed a Ludhiana man of Rs 8,000 and documents in Sector 52 on Wednesday. The police said the victim, Pradeep Shukla, claimed that he arrived from Shimla on a bus and picked up his motorcycle from the ISBT, Sector 43, and started for Ludhiana. Around 4 am, four persons riding two motorcycles stopped him and attacked him with a stick. They then allegedly robbed him of cash. The police said there were several chinks in the complainant's story. TNS
