195-kg poppy husk seized

Abohar, November 6

Two Tarn Taran residents were arrested under the NDPS Act today when the Rajasthan Police intercepted a truck on the highway and seized 175-kg poppy husk.

Investigation officer Ramdaan Singh Ujjwal said the truck was intercepted on a tip-off near Malasar toll barrier. On search, 175-kg poppy husk packed in six bags was found concealed under bags of onion and garlic which were uploaded in Madhya Pradesh to deliver the same at Tarn Taran. Driver Ajaypal Singh and cleaner Harpreet Singh Tarn Taran would be produced in a court, the police said. Preliminary investigation indicated that the drug was to be sold for Rs 7 lakh.

The police in Abohar claimed to have seized 10-kg poppy husk each by nabbing Sunil Kumar of Rajpura village on the Abohar-Sadulshehar road and Om Parkash Rajput of Karampatti village near Panjpeer Colony here.
