Muktsar, September 12

An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and his aide were arrested with 50-gm heroin at a naka here last night.

The police, along with the Special Task Force (STF), held the duo when they jumped a naka in a car near Chak Duhewala village on the Muktsar-Malout highway.

ASI Mohan Singh, who was posted at the Kotbhai police station in Gidderbaha subdivision, has been suspended.

The other man arrested has been identified as Gurmeet Singh of Thehri village in Gidderbaha subdivision.

Besides, Gurmeet’s brother Gurjeet and their alleged supplier Paramjit Singh of Ruknewala village in Ferozepur district have been booked in this regard.

Muktsar SSP Sushil Kumar said, “The duo even misbehaved with the police team.”

The ASI is also facing a case of accepting bribe of Rs 11,000, which was registered against him in 2012 at the Gidderbaha police station.

Similarly, Gurmeet Singh and his brother Gurjeet are also facing a case registered against them under the NDPS Act.

Meanwhile, a social activist and some residents of Thehri village said they had lodged several complaints against Gurmeet and Gurjeet to the local police, but no action was taken against them. The Muktsar SSP said the police were keeping an eye on the accused.
