Our Correspondent

Tarn Taran, March 20

Residents of nearby villages blocked the Pathankot-Sriganganagar national highway (NH54) near Sheron village to protest against the death of one person in a road accident while another was injured today evening.

The protesters did not relent despite repeated requests of the officials though they had assured action against the accused bus driver. The deceased has been identified as Balwinder Singh (35) of Jodhpur village.

At the same site, a 13-year-old boy of the village was killed two weeks ago forcing the residents to stage a dharna. The accident occurred when a bus of Raj Transport Company coming of Sarhali hit a motor cycle coming from the opposite direction.

The deceased has been identified as of village Jodhpur and his associate has been admitted at a hospital.

Duty Magistrate Arwind Salwan and Patti DSP Ashwani Kumar Attari reached the spot and assured the residents that action would be taken against the bus driver who absconded from the spot.

The protesters were demanding adequate compensation besides security arrangements at all under construction national highways. The administration had to divert traffic. Officials had failed to lift the dharna till the filing of the story.
