Cong MP Gurjit Aujla gets extortion calls, two nabbed

The city police have arrested two persons for allegedly making extortion calls to Amritsar MP Gurjit Aujla.

Aujla has received a ransom call a few days ago. Initially, his personal assistant who was having his mobile phone did not take it seriously, but when accused made calls repeatedly a complaint was lodged with the police.

Police Commissioner SS Srivastava said Deputy Commissioner of Police (investigations) Mukhwinder Singh is probing the incident.

According to sources, the anonymous caller claiming to be a gangster had demanded over Rs 30 lakh.

Those arrested has been identified as Vijay Sharma of Nehru Colony and his accomplice Deepak Kumar.

Police sources said the police laid a trap and asked the caller to come to a place for taking the money. The accused was nabbed as he reached the spot. The police also seized money and have started further investigation. The police also seized the mobile phone from which they had made calls. The phone was snatched from a gardener a couple of days ago.
