Court rejects Khaira’s passport plea

Fazilka, May 16

The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge SS Josan has dismissed the application filed by Leader of Opposition Sukhpal Singh Khaira seeking his passport to go abroad.

Khaira is an accused in the Fazilka transborder heroin smuggling racket which surfaced in 2015. Five persons had already been awarded 20-year sentence in the case.

On the directions of the higher court, Khaira had to deposit his passport in the local court and subsequently he was directed not to leave the country.

Sources said Khaira filed an application in the court of Josan on Tuesday which was turned down by the judge. He wanted to leave for Canada to attend a political conference there.
