168 principals lose powers to disburse funds

Faridkot, April 20

The School Education Department has withdrawn drawing and disbursing powers from 168 principals in government senior secondary schools with immediate effect.

The department has conveyed to the Circle Education Officers in Faridkot, Jalandhar and Nabha to make temporary arrangements by giving these powers to principals of government schools near these schools so that there was no hindrance in the release of salaries and other financial dealings in these schools.

The withdrawal of powers from 168 principals is the fallout of a legal tussle between degree and diploma-holder vocational masters in the government schools. The use of these powers by the ad hoc principals was not appropriate so these had been withdrawn, said G Vajralingam, Additional Principal Secretary, School Education. — TNS
