Gurdaspur, April 21

The massive manhunt launched to nab gangster Vicky Gounder and three of his accomplices involved in Thursday’s shootout did not yield the desired result even though Gurdaspur police raided as many as a dozen suspected hideouts.

SSP Bhupinderjeet Virk himself led two of the raids on farmhouses near Gurdaspur. He has formed four teams which are trying to locate the accused.

Officers investigating the case claim that during the five to seven minute shootout — in which three people were shot dead — several bullets were fired by the Gounder gang.

The SUV occupants, on the other hand, did not fire even a single round.

An officer, quoting eye witnesses, claimed that Gounder himself checked the pulse of two of the persons who died on the spot.

“Actually, he wanted to make sure whether the two had died. He ventured near the SUV only after making sure that the rest of the three, who were injured, were not in a position to retaliate,” he said.

Police say that there is every possibility that Gounder may be using foreign made multiple sim cards.

“He has contacts abroad and it might not have been difficult for him to procure these cards. We are working on the theory that he has several such cards and keeps on changing them to avoid detection,” said an investigating officer.
