MC chief shows ‘solidarity’ with encroachers

Our Correspondent

Abohar, April 20

Municipal Council president Pramil Kalani was among local leaders of the BJP and SAD who expressed “solidarity” with vendors and shopkeepers who had staged a dharna and blocked the Railway Road here on Tuesday.

Kalani and some councillors accompanied MLA Arun Narang and other leaders of the Opposition to criticise SDM Jaspreet Singh who was monitoring a drive against encroachments launched by the MC.

There were complaints that even vehicles of central security forces find it difficult to pass through the Railway Road due to illegal occupation by vendors.

While licensed rehriwalas were required to keep moving, most of them had fixed spots where they stay put throughout the day. Violators claimed they had been “paying” money to the MC staff.

SDM Jaspreet Singh said the elected representatives in the MC were expected to cooperate in such measures.
