Suffering from hepatitis C, man ends life

A 42-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a train here on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Balwinder Singh, a resident of Guru Ram Das Nagar of Moga city.

The Government Railway Police recovered his body on Wednesday morning and sent it to the district hospital for a postmortem.

Manjit Kaur, wife of the deceased, told the railway police that her husband was suffering from hepatitis C and various other ailments for the past few years, due to which he went into depression. Despite having got treatment from many hospitals, his condition was not improving.

The local police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC into the incident and handed over the body to the family members for cremation.
