Our Correspondent

Abohar, November 6

Ayush Saharan, a BA student in a local college and the only son of his parents, died when a person fired during a clash in Sriganganagar on Monday night. Sunil, a resident of Purani Abadi, was injured as splinters hit him on the leg.

According to a preliminary investigation, two groups, one of them headed by Jagdish Jagla, who has a criminal record, reached Mohar Singh Chowk in Purani Abadi to settle a dispute related to a girl. Supporters of a group arrived in a car and attacked the rivals. Ayush of Mahabir Colony succumbed to a bullet injury. People damaged the car and pelted the assailants with stones.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Tulsi Dass Purohit and other cops reached the spot and impounded the car. The assailants had used an unlicensed pistol, the police said. CCTV cameras in the area were reportedly found non-functional.

Additional Superintendent of Police Surinder Singh Rathore on Tuesday said it was not a case of gang war. A case was registered on the statement of Arun Tarad of Chak 4ML village. History-sheeter Jagdish Jagla, Abhishek Gaur, Rajat Bhadoo, Ram Singh Jakhar, Luxman Jakhar, Anmol Nagpal, Sachin, Monu and Sunil Raika were identified as the accused in the FIR. Raids were carried out, but no arrest had been made so far.
