Sub-Division of Lands

LAHORE, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12, 1918

THE question of increasing the food supply in India in view of the steadily increasing price of food grains for some years past should engage the serious attention of the people and Government. Local Governments have just been asked to constitute Boards of Agriculture with zamindar representative to discuss agricultural questions. Mr. Keatinge has suggested in Bombay that Government should prevent the minute sub-division of agricultural land and create facilities for large farming and improved methods of cultivation. All these are means whereby increased food supply might be ensured. In this connection at the last meeting of the Bombay Legislative Council a resolution was moved by the Hon. Dewan Bahadur Godbole who asked Government to appoint a committee to hold an enquiry in rural parts and report on the advisability or otherwise of legislating for the purpose of preventing minute sub-divisions of land.
