Cong ignored Rishikesh: Speaker

Tribune News Service

Dehradun, April 18

Prem Chand Aggarwal, Speaker of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly and Rishikesh MLA, today accused the previous Congress government for ignoring his constituency.

Talking to mediapersons, Aggarwal said development activities were stalled in Rishikesh. “As I belonged to the Opposition party, the previous Congress government failed to ensure that development activity took place in Rishikesh,” he said.

He said now that the BJP government was in power he had directed officials to initiate development activities. “They have been asked to complete 10-year’s work in five years. They have to cover a lot as people’s expectations are huge from our government,” he said.

On the issue of initiating inquiry into the appointments made by the erstwhile Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal, which was made an election issue by the BJP in the 2017 elections, Aggarwal said, “I have not begun inspecting the files and need more time to do so,” he said.

He lauded the BJP government under CM Rawat for being on the “right track”.
