Jeweller jailed for hiding Swiss bank account

Dehradun, April 18

Chief Judicial Magistrate, Dehradun, Vivek Dwivedi has sentenced Raju Verma, a leading jeweller of the city to two-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) and a fine of Rs 25,000 for hiding Swiss bank account from the Income Tax Department.

According to prosecution lawyer SM Jain representing the Income Tax Department, during a raid on the premises of the jeweller in 2012, it was found that he had stashed Rs 52 lakh in a Swiss bank account without showing it in his books.

The Income Tax Department had registered a case against him in this connection. — TNS
