Tusker tramples Haryana pilgrim

The body of a pilgrim from Haryana, who was attacked by an elephant in Rishikesh in late Tuesday evening, was recovered on Wednesday.

The victim, identified as Kisan (63), was part of a batch of pilgrims from Haryana, who had come to pay obeisance at the Neelkant Mahadev temple. The pilgrims, who were five in number, came across an elephant while returning through the trekking route after paying obeisance at the temple around 8 pm on Tuesday night. Seeing the elephant, all managed to run to safety, except Kisan, who was left behind and was trampled by the elephant.

The pilgrims, who reached Swarashram in Rishikesh informed the authorities about the incident. The authorities launched a search operation and found the body two km ahead of the Swarashram Barrage. Kisan belongs to Gohana tehsil of Sonipat district. A large number of people die every year in elephant attacks in Uttarakhand.
