Vinoba Bhave remembered on birth anniversary

Dehradun, September 10

“Vinoba thought was very vast and he believed that true ‘Swaraj’ can only come when there was no difference between the ruler and the ruled. Without this, there can be no true democracy,” said

Professor Samdong Rinpoche, an eminent scholar of the country.

He was speaking on “Relevance of Vinoba Thought in the Current Context” at the Vinoba Memorial Lecture organised by the Sarvoday Mandal, Dehradun, as part of the birth anniversary celebrations of Vinoba Bhave. The talk was held at MKP PG College, Dehradun.

Discussing many aspects of Vinoba’s work from ‘Bhoodan Movement’ and ‘Kanchan Mukti’ programme to his thoughts on Swaraj, Rinpoche said these needs to be looked

at very clearly and re-established in today’s difficult times. Earlier, Sarvoday Mandal coordinator Biju Negi said today’s world was reeling under multiple onslaught from violence, terrorism and wars together with market-oriented extreme consumerism.  “This is because neither war nor violence, nor market can offer us sustainable solutions to basic problems of human existence and suffering. Any solutions emanating from these have only proved to be short-term or these have complicated and worsened basic human issues and even generated newer and greater problems,” Biju Negi observed.
